Serunting Sakti-the bitter tounge

 
SERUNTING SAKTI

            Once upon a time, there was a powerful man. People called him Si Pahit Lidah, his real name is Serunting Sakti. He lived in area of South Sumatra and Lampung province border. Serunting had an enemy. He was Mata Empat. They fought in long time to be the strongest one. Because of the fighting was always draw, so they made  agreement. Serunting Sakti said, “ I want to make agreement to fight in Ranau lake in the future time. Before the fighting, we must increase our power”. The Mata Empat agreed and then they went to increase their power.
Serunting Sakti stayed in Siguntang Mountain. He got advice from Hyang Mahameru . He was a powerful man in Siguntang mount. Hyang Mahameru said, ” if you want to increase your power, you must stay in the waterfall  of Siguntang Mount about two years”. Then Serunting Sakti accepted the requirement.
            Two years later, Serunting did the requirement. He went to Ranau Lake as a agreement place with Mata Empat. In his trip, Serunting tried his power that he got. He looked cane farm and he said, “I change you to become stone!”  suddenly, the cane farm become stone. When he arrived in a village in  Semidang Aji area, he met a princess of the elder in the village. Serunting greeted the girl but she didn’t answer the Serunting’s greeting and showed her face proudly. Serunting said, “ you are so arrogant, your heart is hard like stone” and then the princess became a stone. After Serunting entered the village, he asked some food to the people but no one helped him so that he was very angry and he cursed  the village and also the people became stone. Because of  His word had a magic, people called him Si Pahit Lidah. In Present day, the area becomes tourism place in Baturaja, Ogan Komering Ulu. The tourism place name is Goa Putri (princess cave).
            After walked in long day, Si Pahit Lidah arrived in Ranau Lake. He waited for Mata Empat. In other side, Mata Empat knew about Serunting’s magic words. He said to himself , “ I can’t defeat Serunting”. Then he made plan to defeat Serunting. Mata Empat looked for Si Pahit Lidah day by day and finally he found Si Pahit Lidah. Before They fought, Mata Empat said to Serunting, “ hei Serunting !! If we fought as usual, it didn’t show that we are swordsmen. How if  we make a game. The game is The Sharp-Sugar Palm Branch”. “Well, if  you want to do that”, Serunting said. After the conversation, they went to sugar palm tree in the bank of  Ranau Lake. Serunting had the first turn. He jumped to the sugar palm and sharpened the sugar palm branch. Mata Empat lain in the ground and backed serunting. Then, Serunting threw the branch to Mata Empat and suddenly Mata Empat could dodged the branch. Mata Empat Could Dodged the branch because he had another eyes in his back head. The next turn was Mata Empat. He threw the branch and Serunting Could not dodged the branch. The branch could killed Serunting. After Serunting died, Mata Empat wanted to take the power of Serunting. He licked Serunting’s tounge but He felt bitter and then Mata Empat died beside of Serunting Sakti. Based on story, Serunting Sakti was buried in Marissa Island, Ranau Lake but there are many sources said that he was buried in Semidang Aji, Ogan Komering Ulu.
